After their debut album, My Head is an Animal, was released in 2012, Of Monsters and Men return with their latest album, Beneath the Skin. Already powerful and emotive tracks such as Crystals and I of the Storm have been revealed, but one of their most recent tracks, Empire, is this week’s Musical Discovery.
With mellow vocals and simplistic guitar riffs along with a powerful rhythm, the foundations for the track are introduced before a more pronounced guitar solo follows alongside strong drum beats. After the driving force of the verses merges into the chorus, the song becomes a powerful chant – with memorable and catchy lyrics that make this song a perfect optimistic song to dance along to. This somewhat vibrant feel with resonate with listeners who are fans of Little Talks and Mountain Sound.
As well as this, the idea that this is a colourful song to dance through is shown in the above lyric video. Similar to all of the previous releases, each actor or actress that is lip-syncing the lyrics to the song is accurate in representing the emotions behind the song. With the actress in the Empire lyric video, the chant-like anthem of the track is definitely communicated.
