I heard this song at a time where my phone with its trusty Shazam app isn’t to hand, so it became an annoying earworm until I found out the name of the song last weekend – it’s Called Out in the Dark by Snow Patrol.
With a strong funk feel demonstrated through an off-beat guitar riff at the start of the track, the song immediately develops its repetitive but memorable style in its vocals as well.
Although the chorus is a surprise change when compared to the verses, this surprise is a pleasant one when the guitar, vocals and drums combine to form a rock soul chorus that gives the track an interesting finish.
On a separate note, the music video once again uses the traditional idea of another person stealing the lime-light. However, this take on the idea is humorous and adds to the upbeat tone of the song.
