Writing Progress: Exciting statistics and exciting times!

So, following on from my previous blog post (see below – The Friday Article), I have completed the next chapter: Chapter Nine! I also hope to get Chapter Ten done tonight too whilst I’m at it!

But anyway, in the mean time, I decided that not only do I want to get the chapter done as soon as possible (therefore, not wanting to stretch out the chapter to reach the word count), but that the chapter can end where it needs to end, with 2,000 words being the minimum word count I’ll accept.

However, the word count was again in 3,000 words, and I’ve completed the chapter! But in more exciting news, I’m close to completing that prediction that I could finish by the end of March – which would be good!

Also, more predictions… I’ve now reached 30,000 words, and I’m less than 1/3 of the way through! So, using a bit of maths, I could reach 90,000 words by the end of it all – result!

But now, stats! Maybe even the first of two stats!

Stats:
Chapter Word Count: 3,305
Total Word Count: 31,910
Chapter Page Count: 5
Total Page Count: 54

Liam sets new deadline | The Friday Article

Blogger Liam O’Dell, owner of The Life of a Thinker, has revealed a new deadline when it comes to working on his new WIP.

The writer and musician has currently completed 8 chapters out of 30, but has set a deadline for himself to complete his WIP quicker.

Liam hopes to complete Chapter 9 and 10 tonight, so that he could finish by the end of March at the latest.

“If I do the same levels of writing for February and March, then I could get the novel completed by the end of March. If not, sooner.” said the blogger.

He added: “What I hope is that by placing myself a deadline, I make myself more determined, rather than rushing my work.”

“Since I will be writing for a majority of this evening, I will post up a Writing Progress post should I be successful in completing my deadline.”

Liam has until midnight tonight to complete the two chapters and reach the deadline he has set.

T.G.I. Thursday: An Opportunistic Day

You may remember a while back that I was unsure whether to do Journalism and PR at university, or a just Journalism degree, thankfully, today definitely helped me to answer this question.

My school held a careers fair today. Two organisations sounded interesting and were at the fair, and I spoke to them.

One was the local radio station. This interested me because I host my own radio show at school, love music, and wouldn’t mind going into radio hosting/radio journalism.

They recommended an apprenticeship scheme, which sounded very interesting!

Lastly, the second was a local PR agency. I asked the representative about Journalism and PR. In particular, whether just a Journalism degree get you into PR, and it does!

Therefore, I left the careers fair with a lot of useful tips and info, and with the idea that I want to do an NCTJ approved course at university! Woohoo!

The 1.5:20 Year Ratio

So I read an article earlier today about blogging turning 20 this year! Now, obviously I’m new to blogging so I can’t provide much thought on most of the 20 years. Instead, I can do 1/2 years (ish) of that. Hence the title.

When I started in August 2012, I entered the blogosphere. Originally, a presumption I made was that it was an informal medium to communicate. But I later come to realise that blogging has since spanned out into a variety of different fields. Including more formal reasons, like blogging professionally.

I also thought that the communication between others would be minimal. But I have since become part of a small interconnected blogging community!

Hopefully over the years to come, I can provide a more detailed opinion!

The Linguist’s Curiosity

Words have always interested me. As a writer, I have to select from an array of words which ones communicate what I want to say. I’m even using words now!

For those who don’t know, I am deaf/hard of hearing, and what interests me is British Sign Language (BSL). Primarily because it doesn’t involve words…

Therefore, it would be interesting to learn a new unconventional language, that involves a different method of communicating aside from speech. Not to mention that should things get worse hearing wise, I’ve got fluent BSL under my belt!

However, sadly BSL can be quite costly. Instead, I was advised about going on a lip reading course. This would not only be cheaper, but would be a handy skill regardless of hearing ability (though it definitely helps!).

So I’ll have to look into that! I’ll let you know of any progress!

Anyone know any sign language? Or know how to lip-read? Comment below!

Book Progress: A Chapter Losing Steam

In previous writing efforts, I’ve always struggled to even reach 2,000 words. Also, it would often lead to me desperately trying to stretch the chapter as far as I can. This thus lead to me creating a lot of “white noise” – bits that didn’t really need to be there.

Already, these two problems aren’t happening…Until now… I have since surpassed 2,000 words on each chapter, but Chapter Eight saw me having to stretch out the chapter a bit. This even involved adding a brief sub-plot to increase the word count. On this occasion, I didn’t follow the usual pattern of finishing at a satisfying ending, but instead continued writing until I crossed the 3,000 word mark…

But aside from that, I am setting myself a few targets. The first is that I aim to complete Chapter 10 by the end of January (Friday – yikes!). So I best get cracking! The other target is more of a fact. Since I am at 28k words, and I write an average of 3k words each chapter, I will probably reach 30,000 words by Chapter 10. Because this will be 1/3 of the way there, it is likely that I will reach 90,000 words in total! Which is a very nice word count indeed!

Anyway…

The Stats…
Chapter Word Count: 3,204
Total Word Count: 28,605
Chapter Page Count: 5
Total Page Count: 49
