Today at 4pm in the UK saw the release of Coldplay’s eagerly anticipated track, Atlas, which is set to form a part of the soundtrack for the next Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire.
The band revealed on their Facebook and Twitter pages the lyric video for the track, entitled Atlas, which will be released in the UK on Sunday.
The music video sees a beautiful visual display of stars and pictures, which links closely with the song’s theme of the world – particularly when it concerns the title – Atlas.
The song sees a very rhythmic, calm and relaxing introduction on the piano. The vocals are quieter, which is different to the mood of Coldplay’s previous album, Mylo Xyloto, but it still sets the mood relevant to the story of Catching Fire (very dark, dramatic and suspense-filled). I can also imagine the song being featured in the movie for the same reasons.
This is also shown in the lyrics too, which also have references to key plot parts in the movie (which I won’t go into because of spoilers!).
However, despite saying previously that the song was quiet, there are points where the song becomes very strong and meaningful. This is present when drums appear in Verse 2 and when there is the musical interlude near the end.
Overall the song is a triumph, and I can’t wait for its release. I think it’s a perfect song for the movie.

The song is available to buy on iTunes now worldwide, apart from the UK, where it will be available on September 8th.
