2012 – My first (awesome) year of blogging and thank you’s!

I think everybody’s got one of these, I don’t know. But I received a report from WordPress saying how well my blog did this year, and I thought I’d write about that today.

You can read the report by clicking here!

So usually at the end of the year, you get bloggers doing “awards” or massive nostalgia – filled post about current affairs. But the fact that my first year of blogging was so successful, I just want to say a massive THANK YOU!

The Thank You’s:

First of all, I have a few special thank you’s:

1. C L Haden – I started my blog, and tried to get myself out there, recognised. Days after me starting up, I was mentioned on Twitter, re blogged on her blog and was attracting many people to my blog. I owe most of my traffic to her, so thank you Chelsea!

2. Ellie – I would like to thank Ellie for her comments on my blog, and for her faith in my blog. It is greatly appreciated, thank you Ellie!

The 5 Most Active Commenters:

1 changeforbetterme – 51 COMMENTS
2 diannegray – 47 COMMENTS
3 rachaelhanel – 19 COMMENTS
4 oawritingspoemspaintings – 17 COMMENTS
5 Richard Leonard – 17 COMMENTS

Of course, you are the one reading this, and for that, I say thank you. I say thank you to everyone who has visited, followed, re blogged, commented, liked… It makes my day whenever I see a comment or like or follow, and I watch the Stats like crazy. So every view I have, I say thank you to you, ALL OF YOU!

Now, will I return in 2013? Of course I will! See you tomorrow – in the New Year!

Music Monday!: The best of 2012! (ish)

It’s another special! This time, it’s the best of 2012! My Top 5!

1. Somebody I Used To Know – Gotye feat. Kimbra: This song was straight to number one and stayed there for a long time. It was very popular at the start of the year but is still being played on some radio shows.

2. Someone Like You – Adele: Adele has to be on the chart, this song was in the chart for AGES, it is such a good song!

3. Payphone – Maroon 5 feat. Wiz Khalifa: This song was in the chart for a while. It attracted girls with it’s “love story” background. I like the drum part, it was a successful song of many reasons.

4. Mamma Do the Hump – Rizzle Kicks: This song could be labelled as the song of the Summer for 2012. It just one of those songs.

5. Titanium – David Guetta feat. Sia: This song was in the charts for a long time too. With the UK having a thing for dance songs this year, this song did well, and the nice lyrics also helped this song to go far.

Is there any that I’ve missed? Comment below with your thoughts!

Weekly Update: New Years Resolutions!

First of all… HAPPY NEW YEAR (for Tuesday)!

Now this has been the first New Year on my blog (I started on August 12th 2012) and I thought I’d do New Year Resolutions, but on my blog (I can’t keep personal ones!) When I say “Resolutions”, what I actually mean is “promises”. What I aim to do in this post is explain what is coming up in this blog in 2013…

Discussions on Writing Advice – Series Two:

You may remember Series One from September and October this year. Well, by popular demand, it’s back for a second series! Expect the first discussion to come your way on the 12th January 2013!

A New Interactive Story:

Now, I have been repeatedly nagging in the past that I want to show fellow bloggers my writing style (After all, I can’t give advice about writing, interview others and generally talk about it without showing others my style). I am thinking of a couple of ideas that I could do (I’m trying to come up with a new and exciting way of telling stories without other people nicking them and making money from them!)

So all I can say at the moment is that it is in the works. What I am hoping of doing, and what the main idea is that I can do a role playing story, where you decide what happens. In order to do this, I will have to experiment with the “Password” function on the blog in order for everything to run smoothly. So apologies in advance if a “test post” appears, as that would be testing my ideas for this idea of mine.

As always, I shall keep you informed…

My WIP Update:

Of course, due to the Christmas festivities and all, I have been unable to make much progress on my book. But so far I am on Chapter Eleven, and have currently started doing a bit of planning (if not, the story would go on forever!)

Anyway, Happy New Year! Here’s to a great 2013!

Adverts of 2012: A Telly – Lover’s Opinion

This post is another of those which conveys my annoyance or anger towards one particular topic. On this occasion, it’s adverts, in detail, the worst out there, the TV Ads.

Now most days, we tend to, or at least I do, watch advertisements with no hope of buying the product advertised, but instead watch them to either marvel at their poor business advertising skills or be entertained by their possibly viral form of advertising.

So below are my best and worst of the year:
The Best:
The PG Tips Advert: We all do it, and isn’t it just a great ad?
The Peugeot Advert: This advert is hilarious. It always makes me chuckle.
The GoCompare “Saving the Nation” Adverts: Woah, woah, woah, before anyone starts giving me the evils about this, you may not have seen the new adverts. These involve celebrities, recent ones being the likes of Sue Barker, getting their own back on the annoying man. And some of their paybacks do make me laugh.
The Compare the Meerkat Adverts: Love them or hate them, I think they’re quite funny, the accent when he says customers names are funny and Sergei is quite funny too.

The Worst:
The PPI adverts: I do NOT have PPI!
The GoCompare Man – Normal Adverts: I just hate the adverts. End of.
The DirectLine Adverts: The first couple of ads on this were funny and I actually got the jokes, but now their jokes aren’t funny and they have seriously bad acting.
The Money Supermarket Adverts: It was one of those ads which was funny the first time but when they did the spin – offs with different names it got repetitive, and then annoying.

What are your favourite and/or worst ads? Comment below!

T.G.I. Thursday!: Nearly new year and presents!

Well, recently it was Christmas – Yay!

So, I will do my best not to boast about what I got. But I got the Complete Book of Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock: Series Two!, and apart from that, some other books and some general presents.

But anyway, that was yesterday and Tuesday. I’m talking about today of course!

Now, after Christmas has sadly ended for another year, there comes that point where days become boring as you wait for New Year’s Eve so you can get rid of 2012 and focus on the new year. So today I used this free day to get some jobs sorted. It’s nice to get everything out of the way, ready for the next year coming up.

Happy Thursday!

Music Monday!: The best of the festive!

So this week… IT’S CHRISTMAS!!!

Now, to get us all in the Christmas mood, this week’s Music Monday is going to be the BESTIVE OF THE FESTIVE (See what I did there?)! So this is my pick of Christmas songs:

1. All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey: it’s one of those songs where you know all the lyrics. It’s great as a song for romance and Christmas.

2. I Wish it Could be Christmas Everyday – Wizzard: Another classic. Love the drum tune, and the chorus is instantly recognisable.

3. Merry Christmas Everybody – Slade: Great tune. Period.

4. Fairytale of New York – The Pogues feat. Kirsty McColl: I wasn’t keen on this song at first. But now I agree that it’s a good song. It makes me chuckle near the chorus when they fire insults at each other, and “The Bells are Ringing Out for Christmas Day!” is great!

5. In Dulci Jubilo – Mike Oldfield (Christmas Version): I didn’t know what this song was called at first, but I’m so glad that I know what it’s called now. It is definitely one of my favourites, and I love the flute part and how it gives the song a jumpy and dancing feel to it.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Weekly Update: A week of plans and productivity

First of all, I have just realised that I have been blogging for every day in December without me being aware of doing so. So thanks for putting up with that, and I suppose it adds to the Christmas feel, as my blogging schedule in December is kind of turning into an Advent Calendar. Yes, there is a blog post tomorrow, and not another post until the 27th. So, basically, my blog’s becoming an Advent Calendar…

Also, some of you may have noticed (if so – sorry!) that I experimented with the new “Themes” in WordPress. At the time I thought it would be nice to change. New Year, new start and so on. But when I changed the themes around, they weren’t what I preferred, and so I had to revert back to this theme, which took time. As well as that, a few things have been added and deleted. I have got rid of pages such as “Share” and “News” and have changed the schedule in “About”. It’s a whole new blogging year for The Life of a Thinker in 2013!

But anyway, back to what has happened this week…

It is now the week before Christmas, and in my previous Weekly Update posts, I did mention that the plan for the rest of 2012 was beginning to smooth out. That is still correct to this day.

Although I still have tasks and jobs to do, I have organised them so they don’t get in the way of Christmas and New Year’s. It’s always nice for me when I have a plan, what about you?

My WIP Update:

This week with regards to my WIP has gone well. I did have a bit of “Writer’s Block” at one point, but it wasn’t long before I was back to writing. I am currently on Chapter Ten (although I have skipped a chapter as I need to do more research) and have wrote the last chapter (as I like to know how it wraps up). Also, I had an AMAZING idea this week for something that will happen in Book Three (as it’s a trilogy), and let’s just say that I can’t wait to write it!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
