Happy Birthday Sherlock Holmes! – From a Fellow Thinker…

Today is supposed to be Sherlock Holmes’ birthday…

So I thought that I would write a little about one of my favourite books today, and it is the above.

As an aspiring crime writer, there is no greater inspiration than the greatest detective ever. Why do I think that he’s the best detective ever? Well it’s the fact that he can solve every crime just by a person’s shoe colour for example, I just think it’s very clever.

And then there’s Watson, who has to be one of the best, unchesiest sidekicks ever. He’s actually useful rather than being one of those sidekicks who just like being the star of the show but don’t know what is going on (eg. Robin)

And then there’s Moriarty, who’s always great because he’s a psychopath, and everyone loves a psychopath in a story.

Also, he has to be one of the best detectives because he had been portrayed in many films and TV shows (Agatha Christie has only the TV series of Poirot and that’s it – Sorry Aggie, you’re still good though). One of the best portrayals of Sherlock Holmes has to be Benedict Cumberbatch (a very good actor). Another is Robert Downey Jr. in the previous film adaptations.

So I hope to get some of the Sherlock Holmes books for Christmas, so that should be something to look forward to!

Ah, which one? I am an avid fan of the one by the BBC starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (I have both series 1 and 2 on DVD)

But if you mean the American series, Elementary or something like that. Nope, I don’t watch it. I’ve looked at it and consider it to be an awful adaptation…

I was speaking of the BBC series starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The one episode I saw leaves me wanting more. I believe it is written by Steven Moffat if I am not mistaken. He’s terrific. I loved Coupling.
